impartial advice on local public transport
GMPTE (Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive) is funded by the GMPTA and is responsible for implementing the Authority's policies. It doesn’t operate bus, train or tram services. These are all operated by private companies.
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMTPA) is the body established to assess the public transport needs of the county and make policy decisions about public transport provision. It is made up of 33 Councillors appointed by the 10 District Councils in Greater Manchester. GMPTE provides impartial advice on public transport including bus timetables. Visit www.gmpte.com for info.
As well as being a co-owner of System One Travelcards, GMPTE also acts as a sales agent, meaning customers can buy their System One travelcards from any GMPTE Travelshop. In January 2006, GMPTE Travelshops also became part of the PayPoint retailer network.
